Biography

Not everyone’s life begins at their birth, for Odyssey this was the case. He barely knew his parents other than that they were sailors or pirates and he was named Odyssey and knew his “destiny” was at sea so he followed the given path and became a pirate.

His life began when he met Arnold Bulletfingers, a man he would never stop looking to. Arnold was the captain of the Kraken’s Terror, he led with charisma and care and if you met this man on the street the only aspect of him that would tell you he’s a pirate were his clothes. Odyssey began to fall in love with Arnold though he never fully understood these feelings.

Years of sailing together and rising the ranks to quartermaster they trusted each other completely. So when rumours began circulating and “proof” of Arnold being a traitor surfaced, Arnold was sent to death. Odyssey, knowing that these allegations were false, for the first time in his life he made a conscious choice and needed to free his oldest and perhaps only friend. His mind raced, he found a witch that would help him for a price (of course). He swiftly and simply with the knowledge he had accrued over the years and the power of the witch’s magic found a way to break Arnold out of prison. The plan worked without a hitch and Arnold is in a safe place but Odyssey can never see him again.

Something had awoken within Odyssey that day. His passiveness and patience taught him something he never thought he knew; he had studied his home, studied his colleagues he knew he could work them, manipulate them to his will and he wanted revenge.

The price for the witch did not feel like too much of a burden for Odyssey had to sell her potions which were branded as “alcohol”. But at any moment she can have an army of her own as their control is given over to her. Odyssey doesn't care, these are the pirates that took everything he had. He will be gleeful watching them suffer.

Looks

Odyssey presents himself as a drunkard with no life and no thoughts. He wears the same blue coat that he had when he was a quartermaster which is now stained and stinks of beer. His hair is slightly shabby and he is never seen without a drink in his hands. Although this is all a ruse to maintain the appearance of irrelevance.

If this character was made in a fantasy setting I would want them to be a humanoid dog as dogs are loyal to their owners through thick and thin but I wanted to take it the point of obsession which can be translated through unrequited love. In addition he is a West Highland Terrier; these dogs are extremely popular and known for their adorable looks but there is a lot that is unknown about a West Highland Terrier; they were initially bred to hunt rats and other underground rodents plus they are highly intelligent dogs and Odyssey is highly intelligent despite his presentation.

Story

Odyssey would be a Non Player Character (NPC) who initially I would hope the player sort of brushes off as he presents them with a quest to promote his alcohol however Arnold is another major NPC that the player would be tasked in finding and through various investigations can find the Odyssey is much more connected and so major choices would be presented to the player; Continuing Odyssey’s diabolical plan, stopping the witch, talking Odyssey out of it, bringing Arnold to Odyssey etc. A moral dilemma like this should create a massive amount of choice for the player helping replayability of the game.
